Thrive is a growing psychotherapy group practice supporting clinicians and interns in delivering high-quality mental health care. As we expand, we are strengthening our revenue systems and seeking an experienced billing professional to support insurance processing and collections.

Position Overview

We are seeking a detail-oriented, experienced Mental Health Billing & Collections Specialist to support our practice remotely as a 1099 Independent Contractor.

This role is critical to maintaining healthy revenue flow, clinician trust, and accurate reporting. The ideal candidate understands insurance nuances, claim timelines, and the importance of consistent follow-up.

This is not an entry-level admin position.

Core Responsibilities

• Insurance eligibility verification and benefits breakdown

• Accurate documentation of verification details

• Claims submission and tracking

• Payment posting and reconciliation

• Denial management and appeals

• Managing aging reports

• Patient collections and follow-up on outstanding balances

• Clear communication regarding billing delays or discrepancies

• Maintaining HIPAA-compliant systems and documentation

• Coordinating with intake and leadership to prevent revenue bottlenecks

Qualifications

• Minimum 2–3 years medical billing experience (mental health preferred)

• Strong understanding of deductibles, copays, coinsurance, and out-of-network benefits

• Experience with EHR systems (SimplePractice preferred)

• Experience managing claims lifecycle from verification to payment

• Experience handling patient collections professionally and ethically

• Strong documentation and spreadsheet skills

• Ability to maintain 24–48 hour turnaround on verification tasks

• Highly organized and self-directed

Work Structure

• 1099 Independent Contractor

• Fully remote

• Flexible hours, consistent responsiveness required

• Estimated 10–20 hours/week to start, scalable with growth
