🔎 Role Description

This is a volunteer advisory board role for a Racial Equity Advisor. You will serve as a crucial partner in TEAL’s commitment to racial justice by ensuring every aspect of our work actively serves, amplifies, and is shaped by the voices of educators of color and their students. Your expertise is crucial for embedding an anti-racist lens into all organizational functions and support that we offer to educators.

  • You are a current K–12 teacher with lived or professional experience advancing racial equity and amplifying marginalized voices in education.
  • You actively embed anti-racist principles into your teaching, curriculum, or advocacy and stay informed on equity research and policy.
  • You are passionate about teacher-led reform and can help bridge TEAL’s work with educators, schools, and communities of color.

The Teachers’ Empowerment and Advocacy League (TEAL) is a teacher-led nonprofit committed to empowering educators by amplifying their voices in shaping education policies, curricula, and research. Guided by our core values of teacher-centered focus, empowerment, advocacy, and equitable voice, we strive to create a more equitable, teacher-led education system.

đź’ˇ Key Contributions

  • Collaborate with TEAL’s co-CEOs to review self-accountability metrics for our Equitable Voice value.
  • Recommend improvements to TEAL’s programs to ensure they proactively promote racial equity and dismantle systemic barriers.
  • Provide insight on current research and discourse concerning racial equity in education and racial justice policies.
  • Recommend and facilitate strategic partnerships with HBCUs, minority-serving institutions, and organizations dedicated to supporting educators of color.

⏱️ Time Commitment

  • Term: 2 years, renewable for a maximum of 3 consecutive terms.
  • Meetings: Annual meeting, at least 2-of-4 quarterly meetings, and occasional special topic meetings (all virtual).
  • Availability: 1-2 pre-scheduled video calls with co-CEOs per quarter and occasional email correspondence.
