Title: Evaluation Specialist (part-time)
Reports to: Senior Director, Evaluation
Location: Home Office (US Based)
Status: This is a permanent, part-time (17.5 hours/week) position; Exempt
Salary Range*: $35,000 - $38,000/annual (IC2/B4)
Position Description
Facing History & Ourselves is a global education non-profit organization that challenges teachers and students to use lessons of history to stand up to racism, antisemitism, and other forms of bigotry and hate.
We are searching for an early career (3-5 yrs) Evaluation Specialist to be responsible for carrying out program evaluation activities that contribute to the evidence base for the organization, inform program development and strategy, and assess the Program team’s progress towards its strategic goals.
The Evaluation team has a significant mandate in generating new knowledge to inform the Program’s direction and support its growth. In order to maximize learning and insights that will inform organizational strategy and development, the Evaluation team interfaces with departments across the organization, including Program, Development, Marketing & Communications, the CEO, and Executive Directors of regional offices.

The Evaluation team has the following functions:
Clearly articulate what is known from evaluations about the program’s effectiveness to stakeholders through written summaries and presentations. We are challenging ourselves to find new ways to communicate our evidence base to help a range of audiences understand our program’s impact. These audiences include staff, our board members and funders, school and district leaders, and the broader education field
Carry out new evaluation studies to fill gaps in our knowledge, fulfill funder requirements, support continuous programmatic learning and improvement
Support the organization in using knowledge from research and evaluation to apply insights and guide program and organizational strategy. This includes participating in a cross functional team that shares knowledge, coordinates learning agendas, and develops insights to support organizational learning and growth
Keep abreast of advances in relevant fields of education, developmental psychology, and evaluation and apply their implications to Facing History Program strategy
Ensure staff development across the organization related to understanding and using evaluation findings
Who You Are
You are a lifelong learner with strong skills in applied research and program evaluation. You are capable of supporting all phases of an evaluation study and are skilled in quantitative and qualitative methods. You have the ability to clearly communicate complex ideas in writing, orally, and visually. You are comfortable supporting multiple projects simultaneously in collaboration with your colleagues.
You are passionate about the role of schools in preparing all young people to be informed, ethical, compassionate, and empowered members of society. You are curious, growth mindset-oriented, and enjoy being part of a team.
Specific Responsibilities Include:
Project management of evaluation studies, including school and district-wide studies
Manage data collection, cleaning, and storage
Perform basic quantitative analyses (e.g. means, percentages, frequencies)
Analyze qualitative datasets (i.e., code and analyze qualitative data for key themes and sub-themes)
Create clear and compelling data visualizations, including graphs, charts, figures, and tables, that are accessible and engaging for non-technical audiences
Create professional and engaging slide decks for presentations, and present evaluation results to a wide range of audiences
Collaborate on writing evaluation reports
Update summaries of evaluation findings with new results
Manage department information systems, including files, tracking studies, databases, and disseminating deliverables
Research relevant academic literature
Respond to inquiries about evaluation from staff members
Essential Skills/Qualities:

B.A/B.S. required; MA degree in Evaluation or Applied Research preferred
Three years of evaluation experience involving educators and students in grades 6-12
Ability to calculate frequencies, means, and percentages using Google spreadsheets or Excel
Ability to analyze qualitative datasets using Google spreadsheets or Excel and articulate clear, accessible, and actionable themes grounded in the data
Experience creating data visualizations using Google spreadsheets or other software
Experience creating professional and engaging slide decks for presentations
Strong project management skills
