Department Detail – The Internet Evangelism department takes the Gospel to the world through SearchforJesus.net, a ministry built on digital tools and online strategies. Through websites like PeaceWithGod.net and various social media platforms, the Good News goes out in English, Spanish, Portuguese, Chinese, Arabic, Russian, and American Sign Language. Online visitors to these pages engage with trained volunteers through chat, private messaging, texts, and emails to get their spiritual questions answered. Those who respond to the Gospel invitation are mentored by discipleship volunteers as they go through online Bible study courses and are referred to local churches in their area.
Job Summary – The Chat Ministry Associate will help grow The Search for Jesus live chat ministry by responding to every live chat message from the Search for Jesus website visitors who message with questions about life, faith, and God.
Ministry Requirements
- Maintains a personal, active relationship with Jesus Christ and is a consistent witness for Jesus Christ
- Faithfully upholds BGEA in prayer
- Participates in daily BGEA staff devotions including Bible reading, and leading group prayer as schedule permits
- Demonstrates behavior aligned with BGEA’s Mission Statement, Statement of Faith, Hallmarks, policies, and expectations
- Effectively represents Jesus Christ to those within both personal and professional spheres of influence
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Responds promptly to online Search for Jesus website visitors, often managing multiple conversations simultaneously with efficiency and professionalism
- Handle visitors with love and courtesy, according to the policies and procedures established by the Internet Evangelism department.
- Analyze and appropriately respond to the spiritual needs of visitors, praying with them, offering Scripture, leading them to Christ when necessary, and pointing them to the local church
- Assists other Chat Ministry Associates and Chat Ministry Volunteer team members by answering questions within the group forum
- Responsible for regular reporting of the daily chat conversations of Chat Ministry Associates and Chat Ministry Volunteers to the Chat Ministry Supervisor
- Effectively represents Jesus Christ to visitors, volunteers and other staff members
- Monitors Billy Graham Evangelistic Association online event streaming by overseeing visitor activity and supporting volunteers
- Attends all required online Live Chat staff meetings as requested
- Maintains professionalism and emotional resilience when encountering unfiltered, potentially rude or inappropriate comments in live chat interactions since our audience many times is unsaved
- Ability to identify and explore a visitor’s underlying needs by asking inquisitive questions in response to the visitors initial chat question asked
- Able to receive and respond positively to constructive feedback from leadership
- Have the ability to manage multiple written conversations at a time
- Strong biblical knowledge of essential beliefs and ability to articulate them in an understandable way to non-believers.

Skills and Knowledge
- Experience in sharing the gospel with people in person or online
- Experience using social media, online programs, and Microsoft products
- Able to type 2-3 sentences of content in less than a minute (45-60 WPM)
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Driven individual that thrives in a team environment, but can still work independently with minimal supervision
- Strong interpersonal discernment skills
- Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and deadlines
- Ability to give and receive constructive feedback effectively
- Knowledge about Christian denominations and diverse Evangelical doctrinal issues
Physical/Mental Demands
- Evenings, third shifts, weekends, and holidays required
- Preferred availability between hours of 2:00AM - 6:00AM (Eastern Time Zone)
- Able to maintain a consistent schedule as determined by the Chat Ministry Supervisor
- Must exhibit confidence, composure, and emotional resilience when engaging with distressed or challenging visitors
- Able to work in an environment that requires significant time at a desk and working on a computer
- Must provide a strong home internet connection and distraction-free workspace
