The job: The CDN assistant editor works as a desk editor/producer, assisting other editors with story and image editing, formatting and posting content created by a fast-paced team of 15 full- and part-time journalists to CDN’s website and other platform

· Monitoring for, and occasionally reporting and writing, breaking news stories fro

· Coordinating and dispatching reporters and photographers in b

· Assisting with adapting and planning daily news stories for use in CDN’s weekly print editi

n and othe platforms.
· Obtaining and publishing non-deadline stories from othe
r n
ews sources nd services.
· Assisting with assembling and scheduling news alerts and roundups via email newsletters
a
nd other delvery systems.
· Monitoring and maintaining newsroom master planning list when
sto
ries are schedled/published.
· Regularly participating in weekly editor’s meeting, weekly staff meetings and ot
h
er newsroom plnning sessions.
· Helping to coordin

ws and interns.
Essential skills
· Keen editing skills with an eye not only for text errors but story gap

framing issues, issing information.
· Intimate familiarity with Associated Press
St
yle and in-house stle guide exceptions.
· Strict attention to detail and fact-checking of news copy on tight deadlines in a digital-first newsroom

orking in a competiive news environment.
· Solid knack for dynamic headline writing, often multiple
ver
sions for same story n different platforms.
· Strong grounding in media ethics cons
