Drilling & Blasting Engineer

Key Responsibilities

Design and develop optimal drilling and blasting patterns for both surface and/or underground mining operations.

Supervise and monitor drilling and blasting activities to ensure compliance with design and safety standards.

Conduct blast performance analysis and implement improvements based on blast outcomes (fragmentation, vibration, dilution, etc.).

Coordinate with geology and operations teams to align blasting plans with ore body geometry and mining schedules.

Prepare and maintain blasting reports, logs, and regulatory documentation.

Ensure safe handling, storage, and use of explosives in compliance with statutory regulations.

Liaise with explosive suppliers and contractors, ensuring quality and timely delivery of blasting materials.

Implement cost control measures and contribute to the reduction of drilling and blasting-related costs.

Monitor environmental impacts including ground vibrations, air blast, and fly rock, and take corrective actions as necessary.

Train and mentor junior staff and operators on best practices in drilling and blasting.

Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry technologies, equipment, and innovations.

Qualifications and Skills

Bachelor’s Degree in Mining Engineering or related fields

3–5 years of experience in drilling and blasting operations, preferably in the mining industry.

Valid Blaster’s Certificate of Competency (as per regulatory requirements).

In-depth knowledge of explosive materials, initiation systems, and blasting techniques.

Proficient in blast design software (e.g., BlastIQ, SHOTPlus, or equivalent).

Strong understanding of mine planning and geology.

Good communication, leadership, and analytical skills.
