Job Description

Role Overview

As the Director of Photography (DOP) you’re responsible for translating creative direction into compelling visual output across our productions. The role oversees cinematography execution, including camera operation, lighting design, visual composition, and overall image quality, to ensure strong production standards across studio, field, event, and live production contexts. You will be working closely with the Creative Director, Technical Director, and Production team, the DOP ensures that visual output aligns with the creative intent, production objectives, brand standards, and ministry ethos of HOTR.

Key Responsibilities

Art Direction & Visual Storytelling

•Translate scripts, concepts, and briefs into compelling visual narratives

•Develop and execute the overall visual style, tone, and aesthetic of productions

•Collaborate with the Creative Director and Producer/Director to align visual requirements and storytelling with brand narrative and intent for each project.

•Design and execute shot composition, framing, and camera movement strategies

Cinematography & Technical Execution

•Set-up, operate, and oversee all camera operations, including lens selection, framing, and exposure to ensure the desired visual style and intent is achieved.

•Design and execute creative and proper lighting plans that enhance mood, depth, and storytelling across all productions

•Ensure optimal image quality across all production formats (events, in-house, and digital)

•Manage camera rigs, stabilizers, drones, and specialized equipment

•Operate cameras during productions and supervise camera operators to ensure the desired visual style is achieved.

Team Leadership & Collaboration

Lead and direct camera operators, gaffers, grips, and lighting technicians

•Conduct pre-production technical meetings, set-ups and on-set briefings

•Coordinate effectively with production design, sound, and post-production teams

•Ensure efficient workflow and on-set discipline

Pre-Production Planning

Participate in location scouting and visual referencing •Develop shot lists, lighting diagrams, and camera plans •Advise on equipment requirements and technical feasibility

•Develop and maintain a technical rider for inhouse productions

Post-Production Collaboration

Work closely with editors to maintain visual and storytelling consistency

•Guide color grading direction to preserve cinematic intent.

Experience & Qualifications

Degree/Diploma/Certificate in Film Production, Cinematography, or a related field (or equivalent experience).

•Minimum of 5 years of experience in a similar role, with a strong portfolio demonstrating expertise in cinematography.

•Experience in a church or non-profit environment is preferred.

•Proficiency in using professional camera and lighting equipment.

•Proven portfolio demonstrating strong visual storytelling across multiple formats (film, broadcast, digital, live events)

•Experience working in both studio and on-location environments
