Job Summary
The Community Health Extension Worker (CHEW) is responsible for delivering basic healthcare services at the community level. The role focuses on disease prevention, health promotion, and supporting primary healthcare delivery, especially in rural and underserved areas.
Key Responsibilities
Provide basic healthcare services and first aid to community members
Conduct health education and awareness programs on hygiene, nutrition, family planning, and disease prevention
Support immunization programs and maternal/child health services
Carry out home visits and community outreach activities
Identify and refer serious health cases to appropriate healthcare facilities
Assist in antenatal, postnatal, and child health services
Collect and maintain accurate health records and reports
Monitor community health trends and report outbreaks or unusual cases
Support environmental sanitation and public health initiatives
Collaborate with other healthcare workers and community leaders
Requirements & Qualifications
Diploma or Certificate in Community Health (CHEW certification)
Registration with relevant health regulatory body (where applicable)
0–2 years of experience (fresh graduates can apply)
Basic knowledge of primary healthcare services
Good communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to work in rural and community settings
