Description:

I'm looking for a talented illustrator to bring “Dami Flies Away” to life — a 32-page children's picture book (ages 5–8) based on a true story of migration from Nigeria to the U.S. in the 1980s. The story follows a 6-year-old boy's journey from Ibadan to London to New York, and needs an illustrator who can render warm, semi-realistic scenes with real cultural specificity — Nigerian household details, market clothing, 1980s period accuracy — alongside a magical dream-sequence spread that's the visual centerpiece of the book.

This is a paid, published-book opportunity — a great fit for an illustrator looking to add a real client credit and full published title to their portfolio.

Scope of work:

• 13 full spread illustrations + title page + back matter illustration (15 final images total)
• Full front and back cover illustration, including spine text/design, sized to final trim and page count for Amazon KDP
• Full manuscript and detailed illustration notes provided per spread (mood, color direction, cultural details, camera angle)
• Style: semi-realistic, textured, warm brushstroke style — reference direction provided
• 1–2 rounds of revision per spread included

What I'm looking for:

• A portfolio showing warm, character-driven illustration — semi-realistic or painterly style preferred (not flat vector/cartoon)
• Experience with or strong interest in African/diaspora subject matter and cultural authenticity
• Comfortable working from detailed written art direction
• Able to deliver print-ready files (high-res, CMYK) for Amazon KDP, including a properly sized spine
