Drives ambulances on both emergency and routine runs & performs other assigned duties related to the transport & care of patients. Drives also light cars & performs other duties assigned by Supervisor.
Responds to emergency calls to provide efficient and immediate care to critically ill and injured and transports the patient to hospital facility.
Upon arrival at the scene of accident, parks ambulance in a safe location. In the absence of
Police, enlists assistance of persons available to create a safe traffic environment.
Where patients must be extricated from entrapment, uses prescribed techniques and appliance for removal of patient or radios dispatcher for additional help or special utility services if needed.
Is trained in basic first aid and is able to assist nurse or physician in giving emergency care.
Can recognize types of injuries in order to determine optimum method of transporting victim from scene of accident to ambulance.
Makes minor repairs to vehicle, such as tire changes and carburetor adjustments while enroute and as required.
Drives other light vehicles as instructed by Supervisor.
Transports patients to and from the ambulance, carries and assists in loading and unloading all types of patients outside and inside the hospital. Assures that patients being transported are properly positioned or seated on the stretcher, properly secured, before moving vehicle.
Makes pre-operational check of vehicles at beginning of shift including brakes, lights, fuel, water, oil, tire pressure, radio and overall mechanical condition of vehicle. Reports deficiencies to dispatcher. To ensure road worthiness (FM-FAC-MAI-066).
Maintains vehicle by cleaning light, windows interior and exterior. In the case of ambulances this also includes the changing and exchange of linens for the ambulance stretcher.
