We are looking for a highly skilled and innovative Technical Design Lead to spearhead the development of large-scale Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) solutions. The candidate will be responsible for solution engineering, high-voltage (HV) battery system design, and technology evaluation, ensuring our products align with the latest advancements in energy storage technologies. The ideal candidate should possess deep expertise in battery pack design across module, cluster, and container levels, have a strong understanding of new-age battery technologies such as Cell-to-Pack (CTP) and containerized solutions, and lead a team in designing cutting-edge, manufacturable BESS products. Key Responsibilities • Solution Engineering & System Design • Design high-voltage battery systems for grid-scale BESS projects. • Develop and optimize battery packs at module, cluster, and container levels. • Work on cell-to-pack (CTP) solutions and containerized battery systems for large-scale applications. • Ensure system integration with power electronics, grid connectivity, and BMS. • Battery Pack Design & Engineering • Oversee electrical, mechanical, and thermal design aspects of battery packs. • Optimize battery pack architecture, energy density, and thermal management. • Ensure compliance with safety standards, certification requirements, and performance benchmarks. • Supplier & Technology Evaluation • Work with various suppliers to evaluate battery cells, modules, and BESS components. • Assess new and emerging technologies, including Sodium-Ion, Lithium-Sulfur, and Solid-State Batteries. • Drive localization and indigenization of battery technology in India. • Team Leadership & Cross-Functional Collaboration • Lead a team of design engineers, thermal engineers, and system architects. • Collaborate with manufacturing, R&D, and testing teams to bring BESS products from concept to production. • Work closely with BMS, software, and power electronics engineers to ensure system-level optimization. • Compliance & Performance Optimization • Ensure battery design meets safety and regulatory requirements (UL, IEC, BIS, etc.). • Optimize battery system performance, lifespan, and efficiency. • Integrate thermal management solutions for optimal operation in various environments. Key Requirements Technical Skills & Experience • 10+ years of experience in battery system design, preferably for BESS or electric vehicles (EVs). • Strong knowledge of HV battery system design, pack architecture, and energy storage solutions. • Hands-on experience in designing CTP, modular, and containerized battery solutions. • Familiarity with battery chemistries, including LFP, NMC, Sodium-Ion, and Solid-State Batteries. • Expertise in battery modelling, thermal management, and safety standards. • Knowledge of CAN, BMS communication protocols, and power electronics integration. Leadership & Project Management • Ability to lead multi-disciplinary engineering teams. • Strong problem-solving skills with a system-level approach to BESS design. • Experience in working with vendors, suppliers, and manufacturing partners. • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills. Preferred Qualifications • Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Energy Storage, or a related field. • Experience in grid-scale energy storage, renewables integration, or power systems engineering. • Knowledge of battery testing, simulation tools, and failure analysis.
