Job Description

Project Details:

Professor Emerita, Doreen Balabanoff (Faculty of Design) is one of four international partners on a SSHRC-funded grant. Our current research project is coming to a close, with a conference and exhibition occurring in late October 2025. The project team is seeking an advanced undergraduate student to aid with the exhibition preparation in July and August.

Responsibilities:

• Working under the supervision of the Principal Investigator, Doreen Balabanoff, in support of the project’s research goals and objectives

• Communicating with exhibition participants

• Assisting with data collection and record keeping of communications and submitted works for the exhibition

• Assisting with preparation of materials for the exhibition and catalogue (digital and print media)

• Assisting with the promotion of research activities

• Assisting with project coordination, budget management and administration of research activities

• Working with Technicians and other research personnel, where relevant, by ensuring the appropriate and safe use of materials, equipment and/or facilities

• Participating in the provision of safe and secure environment for all members of the University community and its facilities

Qualifications:

• Completion of a relevant undergraduate or current enrollment in a relevant undergraduate program and/or equivalent training and professional experience

• Where relevant, strong organizational, interpersonal, oral and written communications and problem-solving skills

• Interest or experience in architecture, interior design, design for healthcare is an asset

• Where relevant, sound knowledge of, and commitment to, healthy and safe work practices

• Demonstrated commitment to the principles of equity and diversity and experience promoting a respectful work and learning environment for students, staff and faculty

Hours of Work: 10 hours per weekover the period of July 21, 2025 to August 31, 2025

Work Environment: The position may be remote work, with the provision that meetings will be online during normal working hours Eastern Time.

Compensation: $23.54 (Undergraduate Rate) per hour, subject to qualifications, plus 6% in lieu of benefits plus vacation pay, as applicable, per the provisions of the Employment Standards Act

• Current students at OCAD University will be given priority consideration for all Research Assistant positions, with the highest priority given to those not currently holding any other TA/RA positions at the University.

• This appointment is conditional upon funding of the Project by OCAD U’s external funding partner(s)
