Job Summary:
The Cadet Landscape Architect plays a foundational role within the landscape design teams, supporting the development of innovative and sustainable outdoor spaces. Under the guidance of senior team members, the cadet assists in various stages of the design process, from initial concept development to the preparation of construction documentation. This position offers a hands-n learning experience, fostering the growth of technical skills and design acumen in a collaborative environment.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Design Support:
Assist in the preparation of conceptual designs, schematic layouts, and detailed drawings using CAD and Sketchup software.
Contribute to the development of design presentations and visualizations for client meetings.
2. Documentation:
Aid in the compilation of construction documents, including plans, sections, elevations, and details.
Ensure accuracy and consistency in all drafted materials.
3. Research and Analysis:
Conduct site analyses, including assessments of existing conditions, environmental factors, and regulatory constraints.
Gather and synthesize information on plant materials, hardscape elements, and sustainable design practices.
4. Collaboration:
Work closely with senior landscape architects, architects, engineers, and other consultants to integrate landscape designs with overall project objectives.
Participate in interdisciplinary meetings and contribute to the coordination of design efforts.
5. Site Engagement:
Attend site visits to observe construction progress, verify design implementation, and gain practical insights into landscape construction practices.
6. Professional Development:
Engage in continuous learning opportunities to enhance design skills, technical knowledge, and understanding of industry standards.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Landscape Architecture from an Accredited University
Eligibility to take or currently taking the Landscape Architecture Licensure Exam (LALE) is an advantage
Prior internship experience in a landscape architecture or design firm is preferred but not required
Exposure to site development planning, planting design, or CAD drafting in an academic or work setting is a plus
Basic knowledge of site planning, plant selection, and aesthetic spatial organization
Ability to assist in the preparation of design drawings, technical details, and presentation materials
Willingness to work in a multidisciplinary environment and coordinate with other design teams
Capable of expressing ideas clearly through sketches, drawings, and verbal feedback
Open to mentorship and continuous professional growth within a fast-paced project environment
Technical Skills & Tools
Proficient in AutoCAD, SketchUp, Adobe Photoshop, and Microsoft Office
Familiarity with Revit, Lumion, and GIS is an advantage
Basic understanding of landscape construction drawings and specifications
Ability to produce hand sketches and conceptual diagrams is a plus
