Calgary State/Province Alberta Promark-Telecon (promark-telecon.com) a trusted leader in underground utility locating across Alberta. Known for our experienced field teams, strong utility and contractor relationships, and high operational credibility, we provide safe, accurate, and dependable locating services across the province.

We are currently hiring Junior Utility Locators who are interested in starting a long-term, high-demand skilled trade career. No prior locating experience is required — we provide full, structured training and hands-on field development.

Position Overview The Junior Utility Locator assists in the identification and marking of underground utilities using electromagnetic locating equipment, maps, and digital tools. This is an outdoor, field-based technical role involving problem-solving, attention to detail, and independent decision-making once trained.

We are hiring Junior Utility Locators for the following regions in Alberta:

  • Calgary

Training & Development

  • 6-week foundational training (classroom, online, and field)
  • Ongoing mentorship and coaching
  • 2 to 3-year development pipeline with advanced exposure and skill progression
  • This role offers long-term trade growth in a high-demand industry

Compensation

  • Competitive hourly wage during training
  • Performance-based incentive-pay once proficient
  • Full (paid) training provided

You Will Have The Opportunity To

  • Perform underground utility locates under supervision during early development
  • Use EM locating equipment, GPS systems, maps, and as-builts to identify buried infrastructure
  • Mark utility lines with paint and flags following Promark and industry standards
  • Complete digital field notes, photos, and required documentation
  • Communicate professionally with contractors, homeowners, and stakeholders
  • Follow all safety policies, procedures, and daily field requirements
  • Operate and maintain company vehicle and locating equipment
  • Progress toward independent locating as skills develop

THIS ROLE IS FOR YOU IF YOU HAVE THE FOLLOWING SKILLS AND QUALITIES:

  • High school diploma or equivalent experience
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License (Driver’s Abstract required)
  • Ability to lift and carry equipment/materials up to 20 lbs.
  • Stand and walk for extended periods
  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions
  • Participation in on-call rotation when required
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience interpreting location maps, sketches, prints, or CAD software (asset)
  • Proficient computer skills
  • Ability to drive to and within surrounding areas
  • Strong attention to detail and quality output in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to perform under pressure with tight timelines and demanding deadlines
  • Strong problem-solving skills; ability to take appropriate action or escalate when necessary
  • Self-starter capable of working independently with strong organizational skills
  • Availability for evening, weekend, and occasional out-of-town work if required
