Job Description

University: Missouri University of Science and Technology

Country: United States

Deadline: Not specified

Fields: Materials Science, Physics, Mechanical Engineering, Computational Science, Chemical Engineering

Postdoctoral Research Position – Computational Materials Science (DFT/MD Modeling)

Missouri University of Science and Technology invites applications for a postdoctoral research position as part of a Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA)-funded initiative, “Induced Ceramic Ductility via Nano Domains and Strain Hardening in Zeta Phase Transition Metal Carbide Ceramics.” The successful candidate will join an interdisciplinary team focused on modeling and simulation of ultra-tough, high-temperature ceramics for next-generation aerospace and defense systems.

Key Responsibilities Include

Applying Density Functional Theory (DFT) to explore electronic structure, phase stability, and cleavage energies of high-entropy carbide ceramics.

Utilizing Molecular Dynamics (MD) simulations to investigate dislocation mobility, strain hardening, and high-temperature deformation in zeta-phase materials.

Requirements

Ph.D. in materials science, physics, mechanical engineering, or a related field.

Demonstrated expertise in DFT and/or MD simulations (experience with VASP, LAMMPS, or similar tools).

Experience with high-entropy materials or ceramics is advantageous.

Strong interest in mechanistic modeling of fracture and deformation.

Application Process

Interested candidates should submit a CV and a brief cover note to Professor Arezoo Emdadi at emdadia@mst.edu.
