🔍 About the Role

We're developing Chimera One, an autonomous mission control platform for drones powered by real-time AI and edge computing. As our AI & Jetson Deployment Intern, you’ll take on a high-impact role deploying vision AI models (like SAM + DINO) on Jetson Orin Nano and integrating them with RGB + NDVI sensor fusion from the DJI Mavic 3M.

You’ll help us deliver closed-loop plant health diagnostics — where the drone:

flies a survey,

spots stress using NDVI,

zooms in for a closer RGB shot,

segments and classifies crop issues in real-time,

and sends geotagged insights straight to the farmer.

This internship is ideal for someone who wants to work at the intersection of robotics, computer vision, and real-time edge inference.🎯 Key Responsibilities

Integrate DJI SDK feeds (RGB, multispectral) with a Jetson-based ROS2 backend

Implement and optimize inference for Grounding DINO + SAM/NanoSAM

Perform NDVI-based ROI segmentation and thresholding

Design bounding box + mask workflows to feed into SAM efficiently

Assist in developing real-time ROS2 pipelines for autonomous decision-making

Deploy and validate system in field trials using the DJI Mavic 3M

Measure model speed and help get SAM inference time < 3 seconds

Explore future enhancements like visual servoing and multi-day ROI tracking

📌 What You’ll Learn / Gain

Deploying real-world AI on edge hardware (Jetson Orin Nano/NX)

Full-stack development from sensor data → AI inference → drone action

Working in a high-TRL (Technology Readiness Level) startup with real field missions

Collaborating with startup founders who’ve built UAV tech for defense and Silicon Valley

🧠 Preferred Qualifications

Proficient in Linux, C++, Python, and ROS2

Familiarity with NVIDIA Jetson, TensorRT, and OpenCV

Experience with YOLO, DINO, SAM, or any segmentation/transformer models

Understanding of NDVI, multispectral data, or agricultural imaging is a plus

Exposure to embedded protocols: UART, SPI, I2C

Bonus: Experience with DJI SDK, MAVLink, or drone autonomy
